New York's Tech Valley is a site for innovative technology companies making it the perfect place to host this world-renowned engineering challenge. The competition puts teams of high school students and volunteer mentors together to conceptualize and build a robot. For many Americans, drive-in theaters are a fondly remembered part of their youth. Starting in the late 1980s, however, many of these theaters were closed as Americans became more interested in other forms of entertainment and maintenance costs made the theaters too expensive to run. Recently, however, more American families are discovering this form of entertainment again; drive-in theaters have slowly started to increase in number. The Malta Drive-In Theatre on Route 9 was built in 1949 and has been in continuous operation since then. It is one of only 450 drive-ins left in the US. The recent announcement that GlobalFoundries has acquired IBM’s global commercial semiconductor technology business makes the company the holder of one of the largest semiconductor patent portfolios in the world. The purchase is an additional investment of $1.5 billion in semiconductor technology. This agreement also means that GlobalFoundries becomes IBM’s exclusive server processor provider for the next ten years. The Times Union called it one of the largest business deals in our region's history.
