Spotlight on Beauty and the Beast

The community of Malta plans to host a spirited theater production of "The Enchantment of the Beauty and the Beast," a perfect show for the whole family. Adapted from the fairy tale by Giovani Francesco Straparola and Madame Leprince de Beaumont, this magical performance arrives just in time for Halloween. As the story goes, a vengeful witch turns a selfish prince into a beast after he rejects her.

A Greater Body of Work

"The Enchantment" adds a satirical twist to the classic tale and offers plenty of laughs with a uniquely imaginative storyline. The play's libretto was written by Vera Morris, a pseudonym for the prolific American playwright, Tim Kelly. His never-ending output led to him pen over 300 plays ranging in genres from comedies to musicals and one-man-acts.

His passion for writing led him to focus on producing for amateur and educational markets. Bypassing the hassle of getting a production to Broadway, his aim was to bring theater to as many people as possible, and he did just that. Pioneer Drama Services alone licensed almost 3,000 of his productions worldwide.

Commitment to Family Values

Like all of Pioneer's productions, "The Enchantment" remains true to the company's goal of providing community theater groups, like Spotlight, with affordable and wholesome scripts. Pioneer exists as of the largest play publishing and licensing companies in the United States, and caters to a G-rated demographic. We're thankful to have them produce this masterpiece for our entertainment.

No musical theater production would be complete without a lyricist. Luckily, the inventive Bill Francouer provides songs like "You're Our Guest," "What's So Special About This Girl," and "How Can I Live Without You" to an already thrilling play. These compelling ballads add to the emotional poignancy of the play.
