Since its opening day in a parking lot in 1978, the Saratoga Farmer's Market has provided its local community with high-quality, organic, and delicious food from local farmers and producers. The market has expanded to a bi-weekly gathering at three locations featuring over 50 vendors.
The market has a strong community atmosphere where everyone calls each other by their first name and offers only the freshest produce. Apart from selling organic produce, the Saratoga Farmer's Market is a social roundup of progressive individuals with a strong interest in community-building.
Vendors
Farmer's markets offer high-quality produce at the peak of its freshness. Most vendors here are USDA Organic and keep pesticides, hormones, and antibiotics at bay. You can pick up your favorite cheeses at the Argyle Cheese Farmer booth, pick up a delicious treat over at Ana's Empanadas, and even get some handmade soap products at Saratoga Suds 'n' Stuff.
For almost a decade, the Saratoga Farmer's Market has welcomed local wineries and breweries to sell their beverages, perfect for any beer lover. Some local favorites are the Argyle Brewing company, Oliva Vineyards, Northern Star Vineyard, Lake George Distilling Company, and Springbrook Hollow Farm Distillery.
Keeping it Local
The farmer's market has a standard that requires that produce being sold can only come from local communities in Saratoga, Schenectady, Rensselaer, and Washington counties. These measures bolster the local economy. With some exceptions, the Saratoga Farmer's Market Association allows a fewvendors from outside the core counties to bring produce that is not readily available in the market.
Like most farmer's markets, the Saratoga Farmer's Market puts great emphasis on building a welcoming community atmosphere. On Saturday's, the farmer's market offers a "veggie valet" that helps you carry your bags to your car. They also welcome any and all service dogs to help make your shopping experience more comfortable. For those on public assistance programs like SNAP, EBT, and WIC, you can redeem them for wooden tokens that can be used to buy food.
