Now that June is finally here and the official start of summer is just around the corner, it’s time to break out those swimsuits and get ready for days by the pool or on the lake. Watersports are a great way to pass the day with the kids, as well as keep everyone in the family active.
Here’s a list of places you can visit with the family this summer in Malta for a day of water and fun in the sun:
Lake George
For any family who loves being on the water, water skiing or wakeboarding lessons in Lake George could be the perfect fit for a day of fun on the water. Lake George’s own website, LakeGeorge.com, recommends a Adirondack Waterski and Wakeboard School. These professionals can teach you a variety of water ski and wakeboard techniques, as well as get provide you with all the proper equipment needed for the sport of choice. That includes boards, skis, bindings, handles, ropes, vests, gloves, and more.
Don't own a boat yet? Rent or buy a boat from several marinas and retailers in the area.
Saratoga Lake
Saratoga Lake is 5 miles long, 2 miles wide, and is located just south of Saratoga Springs in Saratoga County, NY.
Take a swim at Brown’s Beach—the only public beach on Saratoga Lake. With its shallow launch area, it is a great spot to learn how to waterski, wakeboard, or just watch the kids play in the water. Picnic and volleyball areas are also available here for landlubbers looking for lakeside fun.
If you want to rent a boat and take a ride around the lake, Saratoga Lake is the place for you as well. Check out Saratoga Boatworks, who is currently advocated by the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce.
Ballston Spa Village Pool
The Ballston Spa Village Pool is a great low-cost swimming locale. Located across the river from Kelley Park, admission is $2 per swimmer, and kids under 3 granted free admission. Open swim is Monday – Friday from 2 – 6 p.m. and family swim is 6 – 8 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays offer open swim from noon – 6 p.m. and family swim from 6 – 8 p.m.
Moreau Lake State Park
Located off of Northway Exit 17S, Moreau Lake State Park offers a beach-like location that is mellow and perfect for the kids. With lifeguards and clearly marked swim areas, Moreau allows you to relax while the kids enjoy life in the water. The beach is open daily from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and the cost is $8 per vehicle to enter the park.
