Saratoga Springs Day Trip

When you live in Malta, you're minutes away from some of the best sights, attractions, and activities upstate New York has to offer.  Just a 15 minute drive away, Saratoga Springs offers tons of options for a relaxing, family oriented day trip.  While the Race Course is the town's dominating attraction, Saratoga offers plenty to see besides, including local shops, parks, music venues, art galleries and restaurants.  Check out this sample itinerary for a full day of eating, exploring, and sight-seeing.

Get started early and make your way to The Country Corner Cafe, located at 25 Church Street in the heart of Saratoga Springs.  Serving hearty, home cooked breakfasts and lunches since 1991, Roseann Hotaling serves homemade jams, biscuits, and five types of eggs benedict.  Recently renovated and enlarged, the cafe also features a small retail store where you can purchase jars of their homemade fruit spreads, fudge, pies, and candles.

After breakfast, ake a stroll down Broadway to Saratoga Springs' famous Congress Park.  Bring breadcrumbs to feed the year-round duck population, take tour kids for a ride on the famous carousel, or check out one of the town's famous water springs. Stop by the historic Canfield Casino building, located in the heart of the park.  Although no longer a casino, the 1870's architectural marvel is registered as a National Historical Landmark and houses the Saratoga Springs History Museum.

Obviously, your next stop in Saratoga Springs must be the historic and venerated Saratoga Race Course.  As you stroll down Union Street from Congress Park, don't forget to check out the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame on your left.  Visit the Saratoga Race Course website for specifics regarding races during the summer.

After a day at the races, head back into town for a classy meal at Sperry's Restaurant, a self-proclaimed "Saratoga Tradition."  Award winning Executive Chef Dale Miller never ceases to amaze with his compelling offerings of the finest oysters, duck, beef, and seafood dishes.  Be sure to try the mouthwatering 59 Hour Cajun Spiced Ribeye with Tobacco Onions.  Yes, you read that correctly.

If you're ready for one last adventure, head on over to 9 Maple Avenue, Saratoga's premier evening destination for live jazz and cocktails.  Each weekend 9MA features world renowned jazz groups and soloists from all over the world.  In addition, you can choose from the finest Highlands, Lowlands, Islands, and Speyside scotches, Irish Whiskeys, and martinis for your nightcap.

We encourage you to leave plenty of time for aimless exploring, too; you never know what treasures you might find!  And, as always, if we've left out your favorite Saratoga Springs experience, mention it in the comments section below.
