Obviously, with its growing economic and top ranked schools, Saratoga County is a great place to raise a family. Apart from this are Saratoga County’s amenities and resources for families or individuals looking to live a green and organic lifestyle. Here are a couple of resources available to Saratoga County residents looking for a healthier lifestyle.

Saratoga Farmers’ Market

Saratoga’s Famers’ Market offers a variety of fresh greens, breads, and other goodies year-round from local farms and artisans. In the summer months the market can be found at High Rock Park Pavilions on Wednesday and Saturday. During the winter months the market moves to the parking lot of the Lincoln Mineral Bath in Saratoga State Park.

When visitors buy local products and produce at Saratoga Farmers Market, they not only invest in the environment but also support local farms.

Recycling in Saratoga

A great way stay ‘green’ and to help keep Saratoga County clean is to recycle. There are several recycle centers within the county, that will take old newspapers, magazines, paper books, cardboard, glass or plastic bottles, or even household appliances and scrap metals. Homeowners and residents can call the Saratoga County Recycling Information Line at 1-866-738-7348 for additional information and answers to any questions.

Additional Green Living Tips

Besides shopping at farmer’s markets or recycling, here are a couple of additional tips for leading a green lifestyle.

  • Unplug when not in use! – Some devices still use electricity, even when not in use.
  • Install or buy Energy Star appliances – Energy Star appliances not only save homeowners money on energy costs, but also run quieter than their non-energy efficient counterparts.
  • Bring along reusable bags – Carrying reusable bags to the grocery store not only saves on plastic bag usage, but also keeps them out of the house.
  • Use Public Transportation or Walk – Taking public transportation is obviously good for the environment, and walking is not only good for the environment, but also for one’s health.
